So it’s decided: I’m staying on at my job. Maybe you didn’t know I was debating this, but yessir, it’s a big part of why I haven’t been writing much lately: because so much of what I wanted to write was somehow linked to the decision and I didn’t want to talk about it openly.
But anyway, I had a really nice offer at a really nice company and I took it very seriously indeed, but several key people at my current employer made really nice gestures to convince me to stay and so I did.
Now that that’s all done, I can get back to obsessing about other things, like Oktoberfest and getting the house ready for all the people who are going to be there. Yikes!
Congratulations on the decision. Oh, and if you decide you want to share the details, I’m terribly curious! 🙂

Yay! I’ll be home for that. I love Oktoberfests. Hopefully my friends will be up for me dragging them to Germantown.
That would have been my pick too.
The details are messy, but it mostly came down to gaining insight into the leadership of the company and feeling really good about how they perceived me. And above all, how well they handled the situation. I was concerned there might be some pettiness or something, but it was a mixture of “this is the place to be” and “we want you to stay, but we don’t want to get in the way if the other place is really where you want to be.” It was just the right blend of persuasive and graceful. And it helped that I felt genuinely appreciated.
Thanks for your support through the decision!
Ooh, cool! If you do make it to the street fest, feel free to come by the old brick house with the scaffolding in front of it and say hi. 🙂
Cool. Now to get you into a new job.
I’m just reading this now (been a busy week), but I have just gone through exactly the same thing, and made the same decision for pretty much the same reasons as you did. How freaky is that? 🙂
Anyway, I hope we both made the right decision — mine, at least, feels right for me.
