As in, we have them. I mean, what’s the point of living with six cats (including one ninja kitten) if rats aren’t afraid to come near our house?

Not that the cats can actually get to them. The rats have only made it into the walls in a few spots. But it’s so weird — I can actually hear them thumping and squeaking in the walls.

We think there are only a few. Karsten already trapped one a few days ago and more traps are going out today. I’m pretty sure the bird seed all around the house is attracting them, but whatever — we’re not going to stop feeding birds just because a few rats decided to crash the party. Get ready for the snap trap, suckers.

Rats!

Eek! You are definitely taking this much better than I would.

I actually adore rats as pets, but wild ones? In my house? No thanks.

I like them as pets too, in theory. When I choose which ones I want to live with. Call me old-fashioned, but I like to get to know someone before we move in together.

I’m sure I would be freaking out more if they were actually inside the house.

Don’t let your cats interact with the rats. Most domestic cats are capable of safely taking out a wild rat, and will likely get hurt.

Are you sure it’s not sheep in the wainscotting though? Baaaa

Yeah, plus I figured there’s the whole rabies risk — that’s enough to motivate me to keep the cats away.

No wainscoting in this house, and besides, those would be some pretty small sheep. Baaa.
