Edit: 15 guessed, 10 to go! Who else is going to play? 🙂

1. On your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first twenty-five songs on the list (no matter how cheesy or embarrassing).
2. Write down one (or two) line(s) of the song. Try to avoid lines that include the title.
3. Have your friends comment and see if they know the songs.
4. When someone guesses correctly, strike out the line and list the correct name of the song next to it.

I kept getting songs Karsten and I wrote. That’s not really fair to my friends list, even though I know some of you have heard the songs. I’m skipping them.

These all come from my workout mix (I know that’ll seem odd, with some of them, but I like to have a variety of tempos and moods when I’m working out — it helps keep things interesting).

1. First he loved my accent, how his knees could bend…
Northern Lad – Tori Amos (guessed by )

2. She sits quietly there, like water in a jar, says baby why you trembling like you are?
She’s My Kind of Rain – Tim McGraw (guessed by )

3. Not a soul around but the old barkeep, down at the end lookin’ half asleep
The Good Stuff – Kenny Chesney (guessed by )

5. I laughed and he smiled, it would last for a while…

6. I could count the good times we had on one hand, all the rest were a sort of means to an end
A Matter of Minutes – Shawn Colvin (guessed by )

7. What’s wrong with the world, mama? People livin’ like they ain’t go no mamas
Where Is The Love – Black Eyed Peas featuring Justin Timberlake (guessed by )

8. When you light those candles up there on that mantle, settin’ the mood…
I Melt – Rascal Flatts (guessed by )

9. The Buick’s in the drive, it’s good to be alive

10. I’ve been chasing the life I’ve dreamed of, now I’m home

11. I gave up cigarettes, I haven’t had to light one yet, and it’s been years since I stopped

12. She knows enough to worry, but what does she know about crime?

13. That’d be all you’d have to know for me to be fine, yeah
Cry – Faith Hill (guessed by )

14. You know and I know I don’t know me very well
Sugar – Tori Amos (guessed by )

15. Take a minute to concentrate and she opens up her eyes

16. I was lost, I was lost, crossed lines I shouldn’t have crossed
In My Place – Coldplay (guessed by )

17. Should we go out and try to save it, or just let it go like the days and decades?

18. I need to make mistakes just to learn who I am…
Overprotected – Britney Spears (guessed by )

19. If the divine master plan is perfection, maybe next I’ll give Judas a try
Spark – Tori Amos (guessed by )

20. We scream in cathedrals, why can’t I be beautiful?
i i e e e – Tori Amos (guessed by )

21. Oh, the night here it comes again. It’s on with the jeans, the jacket and the shirt

22. You can look but you can’t touch, I don’t think I like you much

Nope! But I dunno, there may be similar lyric in that one — I don’t know it. I’ll give an additional hint on that one: “If you knew now what you knew then…”

If that doesn’t ring a bell, you probably don’t know this particular song.

I’ll give you a hint on the title of 20: it’s one of her most bizarre titles, which is really saying something. 😉

Actually, given the ones you guessed, I’m surprised you didn’t get #11 and #13.

Okay, see, I did in fact surf by this entry earlier – because I always read you, and because this is a music meme, which, just, yay.

However. This is also a lyrics meme. Et moi, je suck at lyrics memes. So much so that (yes) one of the reasons I did one on my LJ was so I could feel smart because I knew all the songs.

Sad. I know. You don’t have to say so.

Also odd, I think, since I’m such a Verbal Grrl. But with music my lizardbrain takes over, and my lizardbrain likes beats and melodies and percussion and basslines, and it tends to gloss over all those wordy sorts of things.

So. I just want you to know that I am NOT ignoring this post, and that I plan to check back lots to see what’s been guessed. I’m just not guessing any myself, because…well, because I don’t know any of them. Sigh.

(Not sure of your thoughts on posting mp3s of any/all of these once guessed/not guessed. ?)

Eh, I don’t like the idea of posting MP3s, but I’ll be more than happy to burn you a CD if you’d like any of these songs. Or any of the songs in my library, for that matter. But I have 8606 clips indexed in RealPlayer, so I’ll refrain from trying to list what I have. 🙂

And guessing lyrics isn’t easy — these words are completely out of context.

It isn’t obvious that I adore Tori’s work or anything, is it? 😉

but I’ll be more than happy to burn you a CD if you’d like any of these songs.

Ooh. Yes, please. At your leisure. If you think this is a reasonably representative sampling, then bring ’em on. (But NO hurry.)

    When are y’all taking off?
