I was working in MasterWriter when I got up to admire a bluejay outside the window. When I came back, Barbra was sitting on my laptop keyboard, writing a song. Here’s what he wrote:
yttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttgyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
– (c) 2006 Barbra Streisand O’Neill-Soltauer, aspiring cat songwriter
I’m not sure what the melody’s supposed to be. If anyone has any idea, please let me know.
Given the length of that note, I’d suspect it’s something similar to Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You.”
Yeah, I read your comment to Karsten, and he says “I Will Always Scratch You.” 🙂
Hidden kitty talents!

Yes indeed! His singing was part of what earned him his celebrity name (also, of course, that he has the same nose as Ms. Babs), so we knew he was musical, but a lyricist as well? I’m highly intimidated. 🙂
This song will be followed by much tail swishing.
Quick, enroll him in diva training!
Brat approves, although he refused to translate.
my sister got a cd recently called “monster ballads”. we were speculating what might be on it. “yarrrrrr rowrrrrrrrrwwww!” etcetera.
It seems like semi-dischordant half-steps up from B. There may be a full step in there somewhere but with some really interesting chords, it could work!
You know, I had hoped you would have an answer. Being familiar with cats and all, and being an edu-ma-cated musical person. Thank you for shedding (ha!) light on this issue.
That cat knows what it’s doing – it’s OUT THERE!
Yoiks! Love songs between monsters?
Cats are so secretive about these things.
Oh, trust me: Barbra needs no diva training. He’s a natural. 😉
I asked Barbra if he had any comment in response, and he says to say “mro-row!”
Oh, yeah. He and Zoe are the naturally divalicious. 🙂
Our cats should totally write together! Mr. Lawrence also enjoys sitting on keyboards, but as you can see, he’s been brushing up on his vocabulary.
So Barbra better get on the ball if she wants to keep up.
I love Barbra to pieces and all, but since he is the alpha male in our kitty household, I think he’d make a terrible co-writer. He’d be one of those writers who thinks every “ygttttyuuuu” he writes is pure genius and cannot — CANNOT! — be changed. And he’d kick anybody’s ass who says different. Plus, as you can see from the userpic on this comment, he’s a real heavy drinker.
In other words, he fits right in around these parts.
I love that you have a male cat named Barbra.
I’ve wondered if Babs herself would appreciate that factoid. Surely he’s not the only one.
Well, our cat is more like Stevie Wonder. Mainly because he’s blind.
