Thanks for the tip on that.

    I was considering a rental.

Then again, it did go straight to DVD.

It was like watching a made-for-TV “movie.”

What’s even worse is that most of the singing in the film was done by Kevin Kline, and assuming the guy can actually sing at all, he was definitely doing some weird character voice, even when he was portraying a young Cole Porter. Then, when he’s the old Cole Porter singing his own songs, he’s affecting this super-croaky version of that voice, and it’s just PAINFUL to get through. Ugh!

And can Ashley Judd not sing? I mean, it’s in her genes and all, but every time she was supposed to sing, they had her mixed really low.

Whatever. It was more than two hours long, and I Have No Idea why we sat through the whole thing. Probably hoping that it would magically improve at the end.

and I both loved it, as did other people I know. But I don’t like some movies others did. I didn’t see it as a “made for TV” movie at all, more like something that was just very unlike most other movies I’ve seen, either on TV or in the theater.

I’m with Mary in that I loved it. Partly for the clothes and the era. Mostly for the love story. Being married to a bisexual man who so throughly loves me yets strongly desires men resonated strongly with me.

And Ashley Judd has publicly stated numerous times that she didn’t inherit the musical gene from her mother.

Huh. I really enjoyed it. I guess I didn’t think it was a great movie or anything, but really enjoyed Ashley Judd’s performance, the look of the thing, & lots of the music.

In short, I’d call it a good lazy Sunday afternoon rental, maybe.
